No Hat Trick - No Problem

EL CAJON, Calif. -- Freshman Theresa Broad continued her assault on the back of the nets of the Golden State Athletic Conference, scoring 2 goals to lead the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 3-0 road win over San Diego Christian Saturday afternoon.

Broad, who registered the first hat trick of her career in the Cougars' 4-0 victory over The Master's Oct. 17, scored in the 62nd minute with an assist from freshman Lauren Lane to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead, then scored again in the 86th minute when she put away sophomore Karen Lawrence's corner kick.

After a sluggish first half, sophomore Bridget Brotherton, put the Cougars on the board in the 58th minute off a cross to the back post from sophomore Sarah Yoro. Azusa Pacific compiled a 26-3 shots advantage in the game, sending 16 of them at the Hawks goal in the second half alone.

Junior goalkeeper Jill Colfer made a pair of saves to preserve the shutout, her seventh of the season and 28th of her career. The Cougars posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since opening the season with blankings of non-conference opponents Bellevue (Neb.), currently ranked No. 17 in the NAIA, and Hastings (Neb.).

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 7-1 in GSAC play, 13-1 overall, while San Diego Christian drops to 3-5 in GSAC, 6-6 overall. The Cougars wrap up conference play this week, hosting Fresno Pacific Oct. 24 before visiting Concordia Oct. 26.
