AZUSA, Calif. -- Maria Abaca had a match-high 13 kills to pace a balanced Azusa Pacific attack and lead the Cougars to a 3-0 sweep of Westmont, 30-16, 30-16, 30-25, Saturday night in Azusa.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 16-10 overall, 7-7 GSAC. Westmont falls to 6-15, 3-11.

Abaca had 5 kills and 4 errors in 11 attempts in the opening game, hitting at .091 clip but after that she was nearly flawless. As a team the Cougars, hit .357 (15-5-28), while limiting the Warriors to just .077 (8-6-26). The Cougars also took advantage of 5 service aces, including 2 apiece from Jenny Brickner and Brianne Huff to stake their way to a quick start.

Over the course of the next 2 games, Abaca caught fire. She totaled 8 kills and just 1 error in 14 attempts (.500) to finish the match hitting .320. Brickner finished the match with 9 kills getting 5 of them in the second game.

As a team, the Cougars hit an impressive .303 (43-13-99) while Westmont finished .090 (33-24-100). The Cougars finished with 11 aces as well, getting 3 each from Huff and Abaca.

Huff and Chelsea Morgan each had 7 kills. The Cougars finished with 9 team blocks. Brickner led the way with 5. Huff finished with 3. Kelsey Voetman led the Warriors with 12 kills.
