AZUSA, Calif. -- Point Loma Nazarene scored the first 7 points of the game then cruised in for a wire-to-wire, 64-54, Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Azusa Pacific in the Felix Event Center.
The loss snaps the Cougars' mild 2-game GSAC win streak and drops them to 12-8 overall, 5-5 GSAC. Point Loma picks up its fifth straight win over the Cougars and improves to 14-9, 8-3.
Ali Greenaway shared team-high scoring honors with 14 points with Kristin Jenkins, and her jumper to open the game got the Sea Lions rolling. Less than 5 minutes later, Jenkins buried a jumper, and Point Loma had its largest lead of the opening half, 13-5.
Marie Dyk hit back-to-back 3-pointers during a 8-1 Cougar spurt that trimmed a 26-18 deficit down to 27-26 with 5:07 to play. However, Jenkins hit a jumper to start a 9-2 Sea Lion run to end the half and give PLNU a 36-28 halftime lead.
The Sea Lions led 41-33 with 15:44 to play when they went on a 19-3 run over the next 7:06 to open up a 24-point (60-36) lead and put the game in the books. Jenkins scored 6 points in the run.
Lindsey West led the Cougars with 18 points, getting 8 of them in the Cougars' game-ending 18-4 spurt to account for the final margin.
Dyk finished with 14 points, hitting a trio of treys. Nicolette Dresback added 6 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The Cougars committed 29 turnovers and shot just 37.9% for the game, including just 4-of-19 from beyond the arc.
