ORANGE, Calif. -- Marie Dyk scored 18 points, and Azusa Pacific buried 10 treys, but it was not enough as Chapman opened up a double-digit second half lead then held off a furious Cougar rally to post an 90-82 non-conference win over the Cougars in Orange.
The loss snaps the Cougars' mild 2-game win streak and drops them to 12-7 overall. Meanwhile, Chapman improves to 15-3 with its sixth straight victory.
After carrying a 46-44 lead into the second half, the Panthers unleashed their high-scoring offense that ranks among the NCAA Division III best. Chapman opened the second half with a run to open up a 13-point lead with 11 minutes to play. The Cougars then turned to Dyk and Jaclyn Rice, who worked to cut the deficit down to 3 with 3:13 to play with a slew of three-pointers.
However, the Cougars got no closer as the Panthers, who shot 54% (36-for-67) from the field, ended all hopes of a Cougar comeback. Five Panthers, led by senior forward Caroline Jensen's game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds, reached double-figures.
Dyk, who led the Cougars in scoring for the second straight night, buried a quartet of treys en route to her 18 points. Lindsey West, who earlier in the day was named NAIA Player of the Week, finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Alyssa Ferdaszewski added 13, and Nicolette Dresback chipped in with 12.
