Santa Barbara, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific buried 5 first half treys and used a pair of runs to take early control and never look back in an 85-73 Golden State Athletic Conference win at Westmont.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 12-6 overall, 5-4 GSAC. It is also their sixth straight win in Santa Barbara since Westmont reinstated women's basketball 6 years ago. The Warriors, who had won 10 of its last 11, drop to 12-5, 7-2.
Trailing 9-7 midway through the opening half, the Cougars went on a 16-5 run to take a 23-14 lead with 7:23 remaining. Westmont battled back and used a 12-2 spurt to retake a brief 26-25 lead. However, at that point, Azusa Pacific, keyed by Marie Dyk, heated up and buried 4 treys to spark a 15-3 run in the final 5 minutes of the half to take a 40-29 halftime lead.
Dyk scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the Cougars' first-half surge.
Azusa Pacific then put on the defensive clamps in the second half, not allowing the Warriors to get any closer than 7 points the rest of the way. The Cougars handcuffed the Warriors, who shot just 26-of-71 (.366) from the field, including just 8-for-28 (.286) from the beyond the arc.
Lindsey West added 23 points, 14 in the second half, recording her tenth straight double-digit effort and sixth 20-point effort of the season. Nicolette Dresback chipped in with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The trio of Dyk, West and Dresback combined for 66 of the Cougars' 85 points.
