ORANGE, Calif. -- Chapman's Kristi Jepsen couldn't have picked a better time to hit her game-high 21
st point of the night.
Jepsen connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the night, this one coming as the final buzzer sounded to give Chapman an 80-77 come-from-behind win over Azusa Pacific Thursday night in a non-conference game in Orange.
The loss is the Cougars' second in 3 games and first non-conference loss since losing to NCAA Division II top-ranked Cal Poly Pomona on November 24 in the third game of the season. The Cougars are now 6-3 in non-conference games.
The Cougars led for most of the way and were up by as many as 13 points (69-56) with 8 minutes remaining. From there, however, the Panthers went on a furious charge, holding the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Cougars to just 8 points in the final 8 minutes and finishing the game with a 24-8 run.
Seniors
Jacqueline Godoy and
Catherine Solorio led the Cougars with 17 points apiece. Godoy also grabbed 5 assists and handed out 7 assists. Senior All-GSAC
Stephanie Patten added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Senior
Ruth Taylor chipped in with 15 points.
Jepsen ended with a game-high 21 points for Chapman. She hit 8-of-12 shots and 4-of-5 3-pointers.
With the loss, Azusa Pacific falls to 15-6. Chapman, looking for its second consecutive NCAA Division III playoff berth, improves to 18-3.
