Cougars Thump Westmont

AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA's No. 21-ranked Azusa Pacific jumped out to a 19-2 lead in the first 6 minutes of the game and never looked back as the Cougars posted a 75-51 GSAC victory over Westmont.

All-American Jacqueline Godoy led the way for the Cougars with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Godoy scored 8 of the game's first 10 points and finished with 13 first half points when Azusa Pacific led 37-15.

The victory puts Azusa Pacific back on track after having an 11-game winning streak snapped last Saturday at Point Loma Nazarene. The Cougars stay 2 games ahead of second-place Fresno Pacific in the GSAC standings and drops Westmont 3 games behind, nearly ending the Warriors' hopes of a first-ever GSAC title.

Azusa Pacific led by as much as 36 (67-31) with 8:29 left to play. Westmont then reeled off 16 consecutive points to pull to within 20 at 67-47, but that was as close as the Warriors would get.

Allison Box finished with 14 points, thanks to a trio a second-half treys.Ê Catherine Solorio added 14 as well.
