Cougars Stroll To Sixth Straight Shutout

AZUSA, CALIF. – Senior All-American Chrissy Sanford got the NAIA's No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific offense rolling, and the Cougar defense provided another suffocating performance to seal the deal as the Cougars rolled to an easy 3-0 GSAC win over Concordia University Monday night.

Sanford recorded the Cougars' first hat trick of the season, with a trio of goals in the 14th, 66th and 72nd minutes, providing the necessary offense.

The Cougar defense limited the Eagles to just 2 shots all night, allowing the Eagles just a few harmless chances.

The win is the Cougars' tenth straight win, the second longest streak in school history. It is also their sixth straight shutout, one away from tying the school record, which was set in the Cougars' 1998 NAIA championship season.

Sanford scored her ninth goal of the season just 14 minutes into the match when she carried the ball 35 yards downfield and through 3 Eagle defenders. After passing the last defender, Sanford beat a charging Eagle GK Janelle MacElroy.

Freshman Stephanie Bays scored in the 42nd minute and one minute later junior Rachel Evans (pictured) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick, the Cougars first PK of the season.

Sanford added her second goal of the game in the 66th minute and third goal and 11th of the season 6 minutes later to round out the scoring. The hat trick is the second of her 2-year Azusa Pacific career.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-1 overall, 7-0 in the GSAC. Concordia falls to 5-7-1, 2-3-1 GSAC.
