AZUSA, CALIF. -- After wrapping up nonconference play with a losing record, Azusa Pacific has taken a share of the early GSAC lead with its second win in as many conference games, this time wearing down Biola with a balanced attack to come away with a 70-47 victory in the Cougars' first-ever game in the Felix Event Center.
Junior guard
Jacqueline Godoy had a game-high 8 steals (6 in the first half) to lead the Cougar defense, which forced the Eagles into 27 turnovers. Godoy tossed in 12 points and dished out a game-high 5 assists, and junior forward
Stephanie Patten tallied her first career double-double, scoring a game-high 14 points and grabbing another game-high of 12 rebounds.
The Cougars shot just 36% (23-for-64) from the field, but used a 53-32 rebounding advantage to keep the Eagles at bay. Azusa Pacific enjoyed its largest lead at 56-28 with 10:28 remaining when
Allison Box hit one of 3 treys in the game. Box finished with 9 points, shooting 3-for-8 from 3-point range.
The Cougars built a 31-15 lead with 5:14 remaining in the first half, but could not extend the lead further, despite 14 Eagle turnovers in the opening half. Godoy led all scorers in the first half with 10 points, while the Cougars shot just 33% (11-for-33) in route to a 37-22 halftime lead.
With the win, Azusa Pacific remains undefeated in GSAC play at 2-0, 6-5 overall, while Biola drops to 0-2 in conference play and 3-12 overall.
