Cougars Beat CBU From the Bench

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. -- Super subs Allison Box and Jennifer Barbone combined for 50 points and senior All-GSAC guard Amy Lemm added 17 to lead the NAIA's No. 22-ranked Azusa Pacific to an 82-67 victory over Cal Baptist in a GSAC game in Riverside Tuesday night.

Lemm spurred an 11-0 Cougar run that stretched across both halves by scoring 8 points in that span. Her jumper with 18:39 left in the game capped the run and gave Azusa Pacific a 42-32 lead. From there, the Cougars took advantage of the Lancers by stretching the lead to as many as 22 points (71-49 with 6:07 left to play) and cruised in for the win, Azusa Pacific's 10th straight at Van Dyne Gym.

Azusa Pacific trailed 12-6 early on which prompted Barbone off the bench. She responded by making 5 of her first 6 shots which resulted in a 24-20 Azusa Pacific lead with 10:44 left in the first half.

Box put the game out of reach by nailing 3 straight treys that resulted in a 50-39 Cougar lead at the 15:36 mark of the second half. Box finished the game with 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting. She tied Christy Brock's 1996 single-game record with 7 treys and as a result broke Azusa Pacific single season 3-point shooting record with 74 3-balls (Pilar Surch set the former standard in 1998 with 69).

Barbone tallied 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting as well. She also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
