FRESNO, CALIF. -- On the day Azusa Pacific cracked the NAIA Top 25 poll for the first time this season, the No. 23-ranked Cougars found out just how far they have to go to become a top 10 team. The Cougars were thumped hard by defending GSAC champion and No. 2-ranked Fresno Pacific, 15-2, 15-5, 15-3, in a match that lasted just 57 minutes.
Qin Wen and Micheleen Issa led the Sunbirds with 11 kills each. Wen also had a match-high 6 aces. Becky Stiglich and Lin Gao chipped in with 6 kills each.
Azusa Pacific was paced by Izzy Bolles' 10 kills. Sohomores Tishanna Pope and Bonnie Whipple each had 4 kills.
"They (the Cougars) are a young team and have talent," said Frenso Pacific coach Dennis Janzen. "They will surprise some people this year."
The loss snaps Azusa Pacific's 2-match win streak and drops the Cougar record to 9-4 overall, 2-2 in the GSAC. Fresno Pacific improves to 16-0 overall, 4-0 in the GSAC.
