Cougars Dunn In At Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. -- Senior guard Carrie Dunn tied a career high with 27 points to lead the Sacramento State to a 68-58 win over Azusa Pacific Friday night at Hornet Gym.

Dunn converted on six field goals including five three-pointers and went 10-of-10 from the free-throw line to match a career high set last year at Portland State. Two other Hornets finished in double-figures, including freshman Nicole Hardaway, who dropped in 12 points and puledl down a game-high eight rebounds. Junior Michele St. Clair chipped in with 11 points.

Sacramento State, which was losing by seven at halftime, grabbed its first lead of the second half at 36-33 on a three pointer by Saint Clair with 17:08 remaining in the game. The Hornets never relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest. As a team, the Hornets converted on 9-of-26 (.346) three pointers as Saint Clair and freshman Rexanne Rodriguez each hit two shots from beyond the arc to go along with Dunn's five three-pointers.

Azusa Pacific, which dropped to 3-2 with the loss, were led by Allison Box, who scored 17 points, and Catherine Solorio, who dropped in 14 points.

The Hornets, who improved to 2-2 on the young season, forced the Cougars into 39 turnovers and out-scored Azusa Pacific, 36–20, in points off turnovers. The Cougars finished the game shooting .353 (23-of-43) from the field, including 8-of-13 (.615) from beyond the three-point line.

Sacramento State had a season-high 23 steals as a Hornets out-scored the Cougars, 10-0, on fastbreak points. Freshman Sydney Gatson had a game-high 6 steals, and Hardaway had five swipes.
