AZUSA, CALIF. -- Six seniors called it career but not before making a very unique mark.
Azusa Pacific defeated The Master's College, 15-12, 14-16, 15-11, 15-8, in a nonconference match in Azusa to close the 1999 season. With the victory, the Cougars manage their first winning season since 1994 but more impressively close the season with back-to-back victories, something that hasn't been done in Cougar volleyball history since the 1979 Cougars did while capturing the AIAW national championship.
Though they did not qualify for the NAIA reigonal playoffs, nonetheless 6 Azusa Pacific seniors finish their career on a high note. One of them, 4-year letterwinner Izzy Bolles, paced Azusa Pacific tonight with a team-high 16 kills. Fellow seniors Jennifer French and Lorna Lyttle followed with 14 kills a piece. Along with the aforementioned trio, Kerri Rivas, Christie Webb and Jennifer Fish all made their final curtain call as well.
Coupled with last week's 5-game victory over Vanguard, Azusa Pacific finishes the season at 15-13, its first winning campaign since 1994 and the first for this senior class.
