Cougars Snap 5-Match Skid

COSTA MESA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific snapped a 5-match losing streak with a 3-game sweep at Vanguard. The Cougars beat the Lions by scores of 15-12, 15-9, 15-8. It is the Cougars' first victory since a 3-game sweep of Hope International on Sept. 18.

Senior Izzy Bolles led the Cougars with a season-high 17 kills in just 32 attempts. Freshman Bonnie Whipple was equally as impressive, registering 11 kills in just 16 attempts. Junior Lydia Ayala came off the bench to record 5 blocks while sophomore Tishana Pope, who had 10 kills, collected 3 blocks as well.

The win moves Azusa Pacific into a 3-way tie with Concordia and Point Loma Nazarene for sixth place in the GSAC.

Azusa Pacific, which had opened the season at 9-3, improves to 10-8 with the win at Vanguard. The 10 wins are the most by a Cougar team since 1996.

And finally, the volleyball win completes an Azusa Pacific sweep at Vanguard this week. On Tuesday, the top-ranked women's soccer team defeated Vanguard, 3-0, in Costa Mesa. The following day the Cougar men's soccer team upended Vanguard, 3-1, on the Lions' home field.
