AZUSA, CALIF -- Kevin Haras' oddly struck header from the endline in the 88th minute proved to be the equalizer as Azusa Pacific and Cal Poly Pomona played to a foul-marred 1-1 tie in Azusa.
Cal Poly appeared to be headed for the victory, but late in regulation a Cougar corner kick cleared across the Bronco goal mouth and ricocheted off Haras' head off the cross bar and down into the net to secure the first tie ever in this series' 12-game history.
After a scoreless first half, Azusa Pacific had a chance to go up first, however, junior defender Peter McGovern's penalty kick struck the left post and bounced across the goal mouth in the 60th minute. Seven minutes later, Cal Poly struck paydirt on a John Baldaray 15-yard low rifle past an outstretched Tim Gorman to put Cal Poly up 1-0 in the 67th minute.
Combined, the 2 teams were whistled for 68 fouls, including 39 by Cal Poly Pomona, and 6 yellow cards were issured.
Azusa Pacific is now 2-1-1 on the season while Cal Poly is 0-0-2.
