CARSON, Calif. -- Julie Thigpen scored on a driving lay-up with no time left on the clock to give the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball a 51-50 come-from-behind victory at the Torodome.
Azusa Pacific took a 7-point lead at the break, 28-21, but the Toros opened the second half with a 12-5 run capped by a Thigpen lay-up that tied the scored at 33 with just under 14 minutes left in the game.
Azusa Pacific answered with a 13-7 run, taking a 46-40 lead on a free throw by Jessica Herman with 5:34 left. After trading baskets and with APU holding a 48-46 advantage, Toro Tracee Lewis knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:06 remaining to put CSUDH up 49-48. Allison Carr's jumper with 9 second remaining put Azusa Pacific back up 50-49, setting up Thigpen's length-of-the-court heroics.
Shanna Renken led Cal State Dominguez Hills with 12 points off the bench. Senior center Kellie Lennon had 11 rebounds for the Toros. Carr led the Cougars with 12 pionts, while Amy Lemm scored 11 points of her own. Carr and Jessica Herman each had 11 rebounds.
