AZUSA, CALIF. -- Freshman Matt Evans scored four goals and senior All-American Jason Roufs added three to lead No. 20 Azusa Pacific (12-4-1, 5-3) to an 11-0 GSAC decision against Concordia (1-16-1, 0-8) today.
The Cougars' 11 goals broke the record for the most goals scored in a GSAC contest, which was previously held by Westmont (9 goals against Cal Baptist in 1989). The Cougars' 29 points shatters the GSAC record, which APU also set with 19 points against Point Loma Nazarene in 1994.
Azusa Pacific tied two other records: goals scored in a GSAC game for both teams (11, APU, vs. Cal Baptist in 1992) and single-team goals scored in any game (11, APU, vs. Dominican (CA) in 1986).
The Cougars were firing early, scoring five times in the first 16 minutes of the game. Roufs, Evans, and Will Cummins all scored in the first 6 minutes. Evans, Ryan Fridborg, and D.J. Ries added first-half goals to give Azusa Pacific a 6-0 cushion at the break.
The second half featured more Roufs and Evans, as they each scored twice in a 19-minute span. Fridborg added the game's last goal in the 72nd minute.
