AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific used a 12-0 run over the start of the second half to open up a comfortable 44-23 lead, and went on to beat Point Loma Nazarene, 71–54, and a Golden State Athletic Conference game in Azusa Saturday night.
Cougar forward
Christy Heyer scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the first nine minutes of the second half to lead the Azusa Pacific charge. Heyer also added a team-highi 11 rebounds to record her sixth double/double of the season.
Christy Brock added 19 points, including 14 in the first half when she led Azusa Pacific to a 32–23 halftime lead.
Kelly Speas chipped in 14 points for Azusa Pacific and handed out a game-high 9 assists to aid the Cougar cause.
Amber Cravy led Point Loma Nazarene with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Robin Blalock, had 15 points.
Azusa Pacific led by as much as 22 points (54–32) with 10:35 left in the game. The Crusaders rallied to cut the lead to 62-50 with 4:22 left in the game, but they were unable to get any closer.
With the victory Azusa Pacific improves to 11–3 on the season, two-0 and GSAC play. The Cougars have now one five straight and nine of their past 10. Point Loma Nazarene falls to 5–13 overall, 1–1, and GSAC play.
