Cougars Set Records in Winning GSAC Titles

Day 1 Recap

SAN DIEGO, Calif
. -- Both Azusa Pacific men's and women's teams set team scoring records today in capturing the 1995 Golden State Athletic Conference titles in the conference meet held at Point Loma.

The Cougar men won their ninth title in posting 321 point to Westmont's 111.  The Lady Cougars tallied 215 points to Westmont's 122 in winning their seventh GSAC crown in 9 years.

John Gachao helped APU's cause with a meet record 31:02.09 in the 10,000 meters, while Michelle Campbell broke her won GSAC meet record in the 100 hurdles with a sprint of 13.79.  APU's Michelle Teodoro joined four runners in the 800 meters who broke the existing meet mark, with Teodoro establishing a new standard of 2:13.60.  Westmont's Sara Naylor also set a meet record in the 400 meters with a listing of 58.11.

Fresno Pacific's Eric Schwab was  named GSAC Women's Coach of the Year, while Point Loma's Jerry Arvin was named Men's Coach of the Year.  

Next up for the individuals who qualify on GSAC teams is the NAIA Outdoor Championship Meet at Azusa Pacific on May 25-27.
