Cougars Ran Away From Point Loma

AZUSA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific, using its new fast-break offense, ran to a 66-40 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Point Loma Nazarene, Tuesday night in Azusa.  The Cougars jumped out to a 31-14 lead 11 minutes into the game, using an attack offense that it first used successfully in last Friday's upset of GSAC leader Fresno Pacific.

Freshman Christy Brock, the Cougars' leading scorer, tallied 10 of her game-high 22 points in the Cougars' opening run, canning a pair of 3-pointers to help the Cougar cause.  Point Loma got no closer than 10 points (46-36 at 12:13) in the second half.  The Crusaders' chances of coming back were seriously hampered when leading scorer Danielle Phipps fouled out of the game with 5:39 left to play with the Cougars up 56-42.  Phipps left the game with 15 points.

Along with Brocks' 22 points, Azusa Pacific assisted by All-GSAC center Suzy Hassell's 11 points and Christy Heyer's 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Azusa Pacific, now on a season-best 5-game winning streak, improves to 9-14 overall, 5-3 in GSAC play.  Point Loma Nazarene falls to 9-16 overall, 1-7 in conference play.
