AZUSA, Calif. -- Call State Dominguez Hills scored 6 unanswered points in the final 49 seconds to hold on and defeat, Azusa Pacific, 66–59, in a non-conference game in Azuza Friday night.
Senior, All-American candidate, Faye Hagan, who made 4 free throws in that closing minute of play, led the Toros with 31 points and 10 rebounds to post her sixth double/double of the young season. Center Michele Coleman, who shook the Toros out of a 5-minute scoring drought with a basket with 49 seconds left, followed with 10 points.
Azusa Pacific, which led 33-32 at the half, was down by 11 points (60–49) with 5:04 left in the game. However, the Cougar defense shut down the Toros as Azusa Pacific went on a 10-0 run, thanks in part to 5 points by freshman guard
Kelly Spears. Down 60–59, with 1:20 to play, the Cougars were looking to take the lead but freshman guard
Jenny Miller turned the ball over and Cal State Dominguez Hills responded with Coleman's basket with 49 seconds remaining, the Toros only basket in the final 5 minutes of play.
Cal State Dominguez Hills used an 8–0 run at the start of the second half to take control of the game with a 40-33 lead at the 17:41 mark. The Toros maintained control of the game until their offense went dry.
