In July of 2021, Blomquist stepped into the new role of Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Operations, while also retaining her position as Senior Woman Administrator, which she has been since the fall of 2019. As the Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Operations, Blomquist oversees all financial aspects of the department, as well as annual reports and administrative assistance. Additionally, she serves as a liaison between the department and the University's Human Resources Office, and various Business Offices.
"Bethany came to us several years ago with high praise from the UCSB staff and people throughout the track & field community, and she lived up to everyone's recommendations," said Pine. "She has been a quality coach and administrator for the track & field program, so it was an easy decision to move her into a higher position in athletics administration. Her people skills and organizational talents make her a gifted leader that certainly heightens the operations of Cougar Athletics."
Prior to July 2021, Blomquist was the Interim Director of Compliance & Academic Support for Cougar Athletics, which she was named in January 2021. Before she was elevated to director, Blomquist served as the Compliance Coordinator, a role which she began in August of 2019.Â
Blomquist entered the administrative side of collegiate athletics following 11 years of coaching cross country and track & field. She began her career at UC Santa Barbara, where she spent four years on the coaching staff (2008-12), following a decorated five-year career (2003-08) as a runner on the Gauchos' cross country and track & field teams. As a student-athlete at UCSB, she was a two-time Big West champion in the steeplechase and a two-time conference 5,000-meter runner-up in track & field while earning all-conference in cross country three of her four years. In her senior season, she was named the Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Year.Â
Blomquist first arrived at Azusa Pacific in August 2012, when she was named the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Cougar cross country and track & field. During her time on the Cougar coaching staff, Blomquist helped lead the women's cross country team to a pair of PacWest titles, and both the men's and women's track & field teams secured four conference championships during that span.Â
Blomquist coached many decorated runners over her seven years, including Staci Foster and Eileen Stressling, who were both All-Americans. Foster was the 2015 NCAA Division II mile champion, and Stressling closed out her career with 10 All-American honors across cross country and track & field. Due to her responsibility as Recruiting Coordinator, Blomquist's impact reached far beyond the distance runners for the Cougars, as she had a hand in bringing in athletes from various events. Most recently, Azusa Pacific won the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, and the Cougars' roster included Jaylah Walker, Meagan Warwick, and Nicole Warwick, who are three student-athletes whom Blomquist was involved in their recruitment and eventual signings with the Cougars. Walker was the individual national champion in the 400 hurdles, while Nicole and Meagan were All-Americans in the heptathlon. Nicole was also an All-American in the long jump.
Bethany and her husband Dave, APU's head men's soccer coach, reside in Glendora, Calif. with their two daughters, Emory and Stevie.
