AZUSA, Calif. – For the first time in the NCAA era, the Azusa Pacific volleyball team is going to the postseason.
After posting a 22-6 record, the Cougars were one of eight teams selected to the West Region Championships on Monday afternoon. As the No. 5 seed in the region, they will play fourth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino in their first round contest on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m.

"I'm really proud of this team and how hard we have worked this season. Getting to the postseason is also a testament to past players and coaches who have helped get this program to another level," said head coach Chris Keife. "We are excited to have earned access to the postseason for the first time. Obviously all eight teams are really good and we can't wait to represent the university on this stage."
All matches during the three-day event will be played at California Baptist who earned the No. 1 seed in the region. Rounding out the top five seeds are No. 2 Western Washington and No. 3 Northwest Nazarene.
Also earning a trip to the NCAA post season in the West Region were sixth-seed Central Washington, No. 7 Alaska Anchorage and No. 8 Sonoma State.
The four first-round matches will all be played on Nov. 30 with the semifinals and finals of the region contested on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The winner of the West Region will move onto the Elite Eight. The three-day championships begins Thursday, Dec. 7 in Pensacola, Fla. (hosted by West Florida).
